Adopting a wild mustang from the BLM has been a lifelong dream of mine, and after finally bringing home my untouched wild horse from the Twin Peaks HMA, this first month has been everything I hoped for and more. In this video, I’m sharing my 30-day wild mustang gentling and training progress — from a completely unhandled BLM mustang to preparing him for his very first saddling.
Rooster is a coming 3-year-old dun gelding with a calm, curious, and incredibly thoughtful personality who has completely stolen our hearts. Over the past 30 days, we’ve focused on building trust through consistent groundwork, desensitizing exercises, picking up all four feet, tying safely, trailer loading, ponying off my experienced mule Clyde, and hauling him to a new environment for the first time.
Today marks a major milestone in his transformation — this is my mustang's very first time being saddled and only the third time I’ve ever sat on his back. I’m so proud of how far this wild horse has come in just 30 days.
