Welcome to the first 3 hour installment of our Miami Airport (MIA) plane spotting trip, which took place back in nthe summer of 2019. In this video, we’ll take you to some of the best spots around the airport, including the famous spot beside the train tracks at the end of runway 09 and a few other hidden gems that offer unique views. You’ll get a mix of departures from Runway 8/26, arrivals on Runway 9/27, and a variety of other movements, including a wide range of airlines, private jets, and military aircraft – over 60 different airlines in total!
Miami International Airport (MIA), located in the heart of Miami, Florida, is one of the busiest airports in the United States and serves as a major international gateway. Just around 8 miles from downtown Miami, MIA is strategically placed to handle large volumes of international traffic, especially from Latin America and Europe, making it a vital hub in global aviation.
The airport boasts four active runways – 8L/R / 26R/L, 9/27, 12/30 – which are aligned to handle both domestic and international flights efficiently. This configuration ensures smooth operations even during peak hours, which is crucial given MIA’s bustling passenger traffic. MIA handles approximately 45 million passengers annually, ranking it among the busiest airports in the U.S.
MIA is a hub for several major airlines, particularly American Airlines, which operates a large portion of the airport’s flights. Other notable carriers based at MIA include Spirit Airlines and LATAM Airlines, along with many global airlines like British Airways, Air France, and Lufthansa. The airport’s wide array of international carriers highlights its significance as a global travel hub, connecting Miami to destinations all over the world.
In terms of global rankings, MIA consistently ranks among the top 20 busiest airports globally. While it may not always make the top 10 like other major airports, its strategic location and significant international traffic place it firmly on the aviation map. Its blend of runway capacity, diverse airline operations, and international connections ensures that MIA remains a crucial part of the global air travel network.
This video aims to showcase Miami International Airport in all its vibrant glory from multiple vantage points around the airport. MIA is known for being a bit tricky when it comes to plane spotting due to limited access around the airport and streict security, but with the right perspective and a bit of patience, it’s possible to capture some amazing shots. I’m excited to share these views with you and show just how dynamic and lively this airport truly is!
