京都国立博物館は1897年に帝国京都博物館として開館しまいした。開館当時の姿をとどめる明治古都館は、赤坂離宮なども設計した片山東熊の設計で、重要文化財に指定されています。
一方、2014年に開館した平成知新館は、ニューヨーク近代美術館（MoMA）新館などを手がけた谷口吉生の設計で、日本的な空間構成を取り入れた直線を基本とする空間演出が魅力です。
Kyoto National Museum was opened in 1897 as the Imperial Kyoto Museum. The Meiji Koto-kan, which retains the original appearance of the museum, was designed by Katayama toukuma, who also designed the Akasaka Imperial Villa, and is designated as an Important Cultural Property.
The Heisei-Chishin-kan, which opened in 2014, was designed by Yoshio Taniguchi, who also designed the new building of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
