All good things must come to an end, as 'West Country' Class - 34092 "City of Wells" bows out of service at the East Lancashire Railway, with the expirey of its boiler ticket.
Affectionately known as 'The Volcano', 34092 returned to steam in 2014 at its previous home of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, subsequently moving to the East Lancashire Railway. During this boiler ticket, the Bulleid proved itself to be a faithful perfomer, and has been a star attraction across the country during its various visits to other heritage railways for galas and events.
To mark its withdrawal, three special operating days would take place on the ELR, under the banner of 'Fare-Wells'. The event saw 34092 operating the railways Orange timetable, completing three return trips over the line each day, with a supporting DMU service provided by a resident Class 104.
