With 2024 summer railtours rapidly finishing up before the festive season, 35028 Clan Line leads the Atlantic Coast Express on a short trip to Exeter. This is the second outing to film the Merchant Navy Class locomotive this year, the other being on a trip to Bath (video link in tags). Clan Line departed London Waterloo heading for Salisbury, before joining the West of England line to Exeter. The tour was meant to run two weeks earlier, if it were not due to a landslide at Honiton tunnel. For the return leg, the tour joined the GWR Bristol to Exeter line, then onwards to Salisbury and London. There was no shortage of whistles in this film, as well as some regular timetabled trains.
The day was planned with minimal margin for error. Unfortunately, Clan Line was late! The first shot at Crewkerne was excellent, but now, in theory, it was impossible to see the outbound leg anywhere else. However, luck was on my side. As I drove past the line on the A35, I noticed photographers, families, videographers and passers by waiting for Clan Line. I had managed to jump the tour whilst it made a longer than timetabled stop in Chard. The same thing happened again. After the shot at Wilmington Lane, I’d fallen well behind the tour, but once again, the ACE made a longer than scheduled stop, this time at Honiton, creating the opportunity to shoot the tours arrival and shunt at Exeter St David’s. After chilling in Exeter, the return leg was caught at Burlescombe. On this autumnal day, shots were taken at:
