San Francisco has been busy this weekend as festive events happen at the same time and I’m lucky to attend most of them.
For the first time Oktoberfest is happening on Front Street as part of California’s first Entertainment Zone event. There was irresistible bratwurst, ice-cold beer, live music, and traditional Oktoberfest games. Oktoberfest on Front is a larger iteration of Schroeder’s annual Oktoberfest block party and is the first-ever Entertainment Zone event in California. Front Street Entertainment Zone (located between California and Sacramento Streets), home to iconic downtown bars such as Harrington's Bar and Grill, Schroeder's, and Royal Exchange, is now California's first "Entertainment Zone!" This allows brick-and-mortar establishments to sell alcoholic beverages for outdoor consumption on the street during special events and programs.
At the Embarcadero, in front of Cable Car Museum, the Muni Heritage Weekend is back today & Sunday, September 21-22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The action will again center around our San Francisco Railway Museum, across from the Ferry Building on Steuart Street.
Just like last year, I was able to experience transit at its finest from decades past; riding through the streets of San Francisco on vintage streetcars, cable cars, and buses that our parents, grandparents, and even great grandparents rode.
At the Golden Gate Park, the very first Europe in the Park was held - a vibrant celebration of European culture right here in San Francisco. Peacock Meadow in Golden Gate Park was transformed into a European cultural hub featuring a variety of activities, performances, and delicious food. Locals and tourists enjoyed the rich diversity of Europe through interactive exhibits, cultural showcases, and traditional games. There were authentic European flavours from local vendors, including Dutchman Stroopwafels, Porchetta Toscana, FrankoniYUM(German sausages), etc.
The vintage street/cable car took me to Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf. I’m a bit surprised that there’s still a lot of people despite September normally sees a slowing down of tourist arrivals. I’m so happy that most businesses here are thriving.
After checking out the Europe in the Park, I still managed to walk through Haight- Ashbury. It’s a fun weekend indeed and I’m not slowing down as I’m on BART as I’m typing this on my way to the city for the continuation of Caliwalks’ adventures.
