Intramuros, known as the "Walled City" is the oldest district in Manila. Built by the Spanish Government in 1600s, this stone wall structure enclosed the city to serve as their defense & fortification against foreign invasions. Intramuros served as the center of political, military and religious power of the Spaniards during the time that the Philippines was a colony of Spain.
