東上野 コリアンタウン
東上野2丁目付近の、昭和通り・首都高速1号線の東側に平行する通り。東京で一番古いといわれているコリアンタウンで、第二次世界大戦直後の混乱期に、「上野親善マーケット」として韓国人の人々が焼肉店や韓国食材店、民族衣装店などを開いたのが始まり。キムチ横丁とも東上野コリアンタウンとも呼ばれ、本場の味が楽しめる焼肉・韓国家庭料理店をはじめ、キムチや韓国調味料などを販売する食材店、焼肉用ホルモンの精肉店などの店舗が並ぶ。キムチの種類の多さに驚かされる自家製の総菜店も多い。また、２丁目にはパチンコ関連企業が集まり、オフィスやショールームが並ぶ「パチンコ村」が形成されている。
Higashi-Ueno Korean Town
A street parallel to Showa-dori and the east side of the Metropolitan Expressway Route 1 near Higashi-Ueno 2-chome. It is said to be the oldest Korean town in Tokyo, and was started by Korean people during the chaotic period immediately after World War II as the "Ueno Friendship Market," where Korean people opened yakiniku restaurants, Korean food stores, and ethnic clothing stores. Also known as Kimchi Yokocho and Higashi-Ueno Korean Town, it is lined with stores such as yakiniku and Korean home cooking restaurants where you can enjoy authentic Korean flavors, food stores selling kimchi and Korean seasonings, and butcher shops selling horumon for yakiniku. There are also many homemade delicatessens where you'll be surprised by the variety of kimchi they offer. Pachinko-related companies have gathered in 2-chome, forming a "Pachinko Village" with offices and showrooms.
