The subway in New York City is the busiest and largest in North America. Having opened in 1904 the system operates 10 trunk lines with 30 routes and connects every borough in NYC. It is one of the only systems in the world to operate 24 hour service and has some of the oldest continuously operating rolling stock on the continent. There are 2 fleets of railcars. The numbered lines built by the IRT use narrower and shorter stock while the lettered lines built by the IND and BMT use wider and longer trains. The MTA recently ordered new R211 trains for the lettered lines which include the first ever open gangway trains in the US and will replace the oldest trains on the network. This system is also one of the only ones in the world to widely operate express services and has set this as an example to various other systems worldwide. The subway is highly efficient and I would consider it to be the best transit mode in New York City. Enjoy the video :)
