I purchased Gomez from a craigslist ad back in 2016 when he was just 3 years old. Like every Macaw that was purchased or adopted, all were fed improperly, especially those eating pellets that contain dangerous seed oils like soybean oil known to cause heart attacks, strokes, and cancers in captive parrots and in humans. I was able to immediately change what Gomez was eating and he gained needed weight, produced beautiful feathers, and experienced a significant emotional healing after being neglected and improperly fed in his first human home post weaning.
Gomez produces the most pin feathers and loves to be preened on a daily basis. This morning I was able to examine and preen his 50+ new feathers that were ready to have their wax tip gently removed.
