Rebirth, rebirth is called ‘reincarnation’. Reincarnation cannot be dismissed as a myth. The stories that small children tell about ‘previous souls’ cannot be dismissed as a myth either. The reincarnation story of ‘Devarani’, who is said to have heard the Dhamma from Mahinda Maha Arahant as a member of the royal family of Devanampiyatissa, cannot be dismissed as a myth either. Therefore, we intended to tell you that story too.
We met Devarani in a small house in Wadumaduwa village, Galgamuwa. They live in a rented house that was under construction. There are many shortcomings in the house, which does not even have electricity. However, we understand from the conversation that Devarani’s family members live happily. Also, the name given to Devarani in this life is ‘Devmini Vihara’. She is five years old.
Little Devarani’s father is Susantha Sarathchandra. He is forty-five years old. He works with the Department of Wildlife. His mother is Shanthi Wijewardena. She is forty years old. She does not work. Her only sister is Chalani. Shanthi told us that she is also good at studies and is studying in the 9th grade at Thambuttegama Central College.
