Ever since my Refinery29 video days, I've been obsessed with challenging myself. And even if you haven't seen any R29 videos of mine, you can probably guess from the other videos on this channel that I'm really into self-development and self-improvement. So now let's get into my posture...I have THE WORST posture! Often, throughout the workday, I will stop and analyze my posture and notice that I'm completely slouching, my neck is craned forward, and I'm 100% hunched over. From the side, I basically look like the letter C. I wanted to learn how to get better posture at home (especially now that many of us are working from home and are sitting on our bums all day), and I especially wanted to pick up some mid-day stretches and exercises for improved posture. I followed Healthline's 30-day challenge (https://ter.li/HLposturechallenge) but converted it into a 5-day challenge (which you know I love!). I started out by measuring my current posture (following Healthline's step-by-step guide) and measured the distance between my lower back and the wall & my neck and the wall (when standing upright with my back against the wall). The article says that if you have more than 2 inches of distance, your posture may be impaired. I was thankfully under 2 inches in both regions, but I still wanted to see if I could get that number down! THE BETTER MY POSTURE IS, THE BETTER MY LIFE IS! Through a series of daily awareness exercises, stretches & mindful habits, I was able to work on the following: - How to get better posture - How to get better posture at your desk - Text neck exercises - Strengthening core - Morning and night stretches - How to counteract work posture I even built a DIY standing desk in my apartment using some shipping boxes! Standing desks are great for making sure you're not slumping over in a chair all day...and they also help you keep your computer at eye-level! By the end of this challenge, I measured again and found...well, I'll let you see for yourself! I don't want to spoil all the fun!!
