Guitar exercises are one of the best ways to help perfect technique and gain better insight to resolve performance issues. In this lesson, we will explore five exercises that will help beginner to advanced guitar players who currently struggle with common technical issues. These exercises will make a big difference.
Technical skill is important to fix because if left unchecked it can slow down progress and cause a lot of frustration. Today, we’ll break down five common guitar technique problems and learn the best ways to help fix them.
Our first topic is about how to deal with finger pain. It happens to every guitar player (whether beginner or advanced), and it can be a serious problem. From the beginner player who hasn’t yet developed their callous, to advanced players who go over-board with their practice, finger-tip pain is a real problem.
The blanket solution is to just have a game plan - especially when you first start practicing something. Work for short time frames and keep a practice log of what you study each day. If your finger-tips get sore, then stop playing.
Come back the next day and start again. This will allow the stress you inflicted on your fingertips to calm down. For beginners, short time frames with more breaks help the finger-tips develop callous. For advanced players who have over-practiced - breaks allow time for finger-tips to heal from stress.
