I use some really simple and effective watercolour techniques which are suitable for beginners to make some interesting abstract backgrounds which I will be doodling over later. I am using Schminke Horadam watercolours because that was what I had available at the time but this will work with any watercolour paint. The paper I am using is an 'all media' paper not specifically for watercolour and it's fairly inexpensive so I don't mind using it for experimentation.

I love making abstract backgrounds because they are great for kickstarting creativity and creating a starting point for mindful art practices such as doodling and as well as a great base for mixed media art. It's always handy to have a nice stash of these ready to go in different colours so you have something to pick up and play with when the mood strikes - so go ahead and create yourself a portfolio of backgrounds and have some fun!

If you haven't been able to make your own backgrounds yet - here is a link to download a set that I turned into a digital download - they may help to get you started on your doodling journey: https://toshiandbob.co.uk/products/abstract-watercolour-backgrounds-bundle-for-doodling-on?_pos=1&_sid=82574d925&_ss=r
