We use the greatest common factor (GCF) to simplify fractions when we find sums, differences, and products of fractions. We use the least common multiple (LCM) of the denominators of fractions to add and subtract fractions. To multiply two fractions, we multiply the numerators to each other and then we multiply the denominators to each other. Then we write the product in simplest form. We can avoid simplifying if we use GCF first, as cross-cancellation. We show several examples of multiplying straight across using simplifying vs cross-cancellation. We can multiply a fraction by a whole number by writing the whole number with 1 as its denominator. 6th Grade Math 2.1a, Understand and Find Greatest Common Factors https://youtu.be/qk-gJ3dMglI 6th Grade Math 2.2, Least Common Multiple https://youtu.be/OjbJssQpsTk 6th Grade Math Course https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKi4WTp6PRGWg5McSxYODb2Oqvtt8AM5s This video and its contents are the property of JoAnn's School and is protected under U.S. copyright law.
