Let’s take a look at 7 very easy, one octave scales that every Mandolin player should know. They will just be two or three notes on two strings and easy to learn. We’ll look at the Major scale and the Major Pentatonic scale. We’ll add one note to the Pentatonic scale to get the Blues Pentatonic scale. Then we’ll break down the Minor scale and the Minor Pentatonic. We’ll add one note to the Minor Pentatonic to get the Minor Blues Pentatonic. And, lastly, we’ll look at the Harmonic Minor which has a cool, exotic sound to it. It’s important to get these shapes into your fingers and mind so you can move them all over the neck!
