Ferrari exists 75 years and in that time period one model was named after the founder of the brand. It is the Enzo. In episode 280 of Sjoerds' Weetjes you get to know more about the development and design story behind the iconic supercar.
Officially; the sports coupe is called Enzo Ferrari, after the founder of the legendary sports car brand from Maranello. According to the Dutch registration for motorcars; this leads to the name: Ferrari Enzo Ferrari. But even the car manufacturer knows that this sounds crazy. That is why the CEO at the time; Luca de Montezemolo, said that the car can also be called Enzo. There was no direct cause like a jubilee or a birthday to name the car after Il Commendatore. The then management under supervision of De Montezemolo thought that the sports car had everything going for it to function as a showcar for everything that Ferrari stood for at the time. The car manufacturer had celebrated a number of victorious F1 races and was very successful in that field at the time. The name Enzo was kept secret for a long time. In the run up to the introduction the sports coupe was named F60. Which sounded logical after the Italians had firstly introduced the F40 and F50. But it turned out not to be the case. Then the name F140 was rumoured, after the manufacturer showed a design model with F140 on the registration plates during a special show in Japan. What the F140 stands for is explained to you in the video. Only when Ferrari sent out the first pictures and specifications of the supercar, only then was the name of the car announced. This year; it is exactly 20 years ago that the Italians presented the Enzo. A jubilee within a jubilee since the car manufacturer celebrates its 75th birthday. On the 12th of March 1947 Enzo Ferrari started with the production of its first model, the 125 S.That was the beginning of a special sports car manufacturer which has produced quite a number of spectacular and iconic models. The Enzo is only one of them. And the car is greatly appreciated within Ferrari clubs. Whereas the car initially costed less than a million when it was introduced; it will now fetch three times as much.
Because of the celebration of 75 years of Ferrari, we shall highlight some of the recent supercars that Maranello has produced. Autovisie journalist Sjoerd van Bilsen discusses the Enzo after the iconic F40.
