Sega’s Dreamcast was the technologically inferior machine compared to Sony’s PlayStation 2, right? That’s why the former failed and the latter became King of Consoles, right? Well, it’s not that cut and dry, I’m afraid.
For one, there were plenty of games on both Dreamcast and PS2 that were better on Sega’s console. Well, I say plenty, I mean eight. And when I say eight, I mean ‘some of these are tentative’.
Anyway, I played all of them - on the original hardware - and put together some comparisons to show you that, actually, the PS2 wasn’t all-conquering. Just mostly-conquering.
Thanks to the folks on Twitter who gave me a list of games to traipse and research my way through. You were mostly wrong though. Genuinely, over 50% of the suggested games weren’t demonstrably better on Dreamcast, and even some of those I went with are arguable either way. Ah well.
