In this video, please join me as we explore the 600-year-old Tea Horse Road Market in Kunming, Yunnan, through my lens.
This market originated from the trade activities along the Tea Horse Road during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It was once the second most prosperous place after the old city of Kunming, carrying a rich cultural memory and the vibrant atmosphere of daily life. As a living example of Kunming's "rural market culture," it remains a place where Kunming residents seek a connection to "life on the land": elderly people carry bamboo baskets to select fresh dew-covered wild vegetables, while young people visit the famous mutton rice noodles and various specialty snacks. We also witness four unique ways of eating tofu in Yunnan and document the Kunming residents' concept of food as medicine, as well as the unique on-site production of Fritillary Mint Candy. The experience is truly enlightening.
