The African American Legacy Preaching Series of Christian Theological Seminary presents “A Conversation with Rev. Dr. Tellis J. Chapman. Rev. Chapman is Pastor of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. Born in Newton, Mississippi, he is a graduate of Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi and received honorary doctoral degrees from Natchez College in Natchez, Mississippi and Dallas Baptist College in Dallas, Texas. He earned a Master’s in Christian Ministry from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Rev. Chapman pastored several churches prior to his tenure at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, serving at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Jachin, Alabama and Little Hope Baptist Church in Toomsuba, Mississippi. Rev. Chapman has also served in a leadership capacity as vice moderator and vice president of the Michigan District Baptist Association and Congress of Michigan. He was recently appointed to oversee the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. He also received the distinguished honor of Pastor of the Year by the Detroit Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Rev. Chapman is a board member of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc., and serves as Director of the Pastors’ and Ministers’ Division.  He served in the capacity of Chairman of Late-Night Worship services from 2010-2015.
