Sometimes the copy is so good it becomes the real thing. Here's the story of how Greco turned into the iconic Fender Japan line. In 1965 Fender would be purchased by CBS. By the mid 1970's many players began to realize these newer instruments didn’t live up to the quality of the older "vintage guitars" from the 50's and 60's. By the early 1980's, the CBS owned Fender company would take note of what was going on in Japan... In 1982 a deal was made with the Fujigen Gakki company, which was making Greco guitars at the time, for Fender guitars to be made in the Fujigen plant. Part of this arrangement meant Fender style Greco guitars would be phased out in favor of the now officially branded Fender Japanese made guitars. The rest is history...
