We are on our last full day in Uganda and heading home tomorrow. Africa has been an amazing experience with many warm and welcoming locals that made our journey very memorable. We will always remember the hospitality as well as the amazing animals we were able to see.
We woke up to rainy weather to include thunder and lightening but after about an hour of this weather we lucked out because the weather changed and the sun came out for the remainder of the day. We had already decided to visit the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Centre in Entebbe. It is a Friday and we decide to do the "Behind the scenes experience" for an extra fee. We are so happy we made this decision to give additional funds to the conservation but it was also tons of fun and a great way to get closer to a few of the orphaned animals. They try to rehabilitate and release as many of the animals as possible.
This centre was originally founded in the 1950s to accommodate confiscated and injured wildlife and to look after orphan animals confiscated from smugglers.
On the day we we visited there were many primary and secondary schools also visiting the conservation center which made for a more festive atmosphere. We were surprised when many of the locals wanted to take our picture. We also had the opportunity to make some new friends with whom we are still in contact with today.
The highlights of the day were getting up close to the rhinoceros pair and the female shoebill stork. However we enjoyed the entire experience!
At the end of the day we head back to the Two Friends Beach Hotel which had wonderful staff! A big thank you to Patrick at Two Friends who made the stay so excellent!
We had a lovely last day to remember but the next day we have the long journey home.
