A Dialogue of Music With Sa Chen

Chinese pianist Sa Chen has established herself as one of the most charismatic pianists of her generation. She started winning major prizes at Leeds, Chopin Warsaw and Van Cliburn at her early teens before she entered into an international professional performing career with her evocative playing. The Polish Government honored the Chopin Art Passport to her in 2010 for her unique interpretation and achievement in Chopin’s music. In 2021, Chen was invited as the youngest jury of the XVIII International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw.

She has performed with prestigious orchestras including the Israel Philharmonic, NHK Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, WDR Symphony Orchestra, among others. Her enthusiasm into chamber music has brought her to appear as well in some historical music festivals such as Lockenhaus Festival, Salzburg Festival, Dusznicki Festival, and Ruhr Piano Festival. Highlights of Chen's recent season include her debut at Marinskii Theater in St. Petersburg, Champs Elysees Theater in Paris, the 26th Singapore International Piano Festival and the Pyeong-Chang Winter Olympic Game 1st Anniversary Gala Concert. Often praised for her poetic sensitivity and intimacy of musicality, her playing is described as “… makes you feel the lyrical beauty, but at the same time shows a volcanic “underground” and the enormous potential of desperation of the music.”

In 2020, Chen attended the world's first offline forum of the Unesco "ResiliArt". Her latest album of Chopin's 21 Nocturnes was released in September 2021 under Decca label. In March, 2023, Chen successfully led and toured as soloist-conductor with the Hungarian Chamber Orchestra throughout Germany. In the following season, she will tour with recital program of Beethoven and Bartok in China and Australia as well as concerti of Bach, Mozart, Rachmaninoff and Brahms.
