In this video, we take a look at the Bell XFL Airabonita, an American fighter from World War II. We first talk about the XFL's parent plane in the Bell P-39 Airacobra, and why Bell decided to modify the P-39 into the XFL for the US Navy. We talk about the XFL's design competition and its competitors, how the XFL technically had a leg up on the competition with the existence of the P-39, and how that seemed to mean absolutely nothing early on.
We then talk about how the XFL differed from the P-39, how the design alterations led to the XFL losing some of the promise it may have had, and how the project was delayed. We talk about the bizarre first flight of the XFL, and the subsequent and disappointing flights afterward that led to the end of the project. We end by talking about how the XFL was scrapped and literally used as landfill.
