Slava Rostropovich (1927-2007) was a force of nature: a genius musician who was Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., for seventeen seasons (1977-1994). He brought the orchestra recognition and fame in the nation's capital and around the world. Having played under Slava's baton for ten seasons -- approximately 450 concerts -- and witnessing first-hand how he touched people's lives, I wanted to remember his musical legacy and the lasting impression he made as a conductor. This homage includes footage of Slava at his peak as a conductor, along with stories from twenty-five colleagues and former colleagues in the NSO. This film evidences how deeply missed and loved he is.
