The Vitebsk-Orsha operation was an integral part of Operation Bagration. The troops of the two Soviet fronts Bagramyan and Chernyakhovsky managed to break through the German defenses on the Panther line in the shortest possible time, liquidate the encircled grouping southwest of Vitebsk and defeat the left wing of Army Group Center, thereby creating prerequisites for further offensive in the direction of Minsk and Vilnius. The success of the operation was achieved due to the correct choice of the direction of the main strike, the timely entry into battle of the second echelons and mobile units and the retention of air supremacy.
