Welcome to Out There Overland.
This first trip takes Andy Hines and me out to the Eastern Sierra — specifically, Alabama Hills — which might be one of the most surreal places to camp in California. The rock formations feel like a movie set (and often are), and the views of the Sierras somehow never get old, no matter how many times you’ve been.
I spent about a week out here in the Rivian R1T. Honestly, it’s probably one of the easiest EV camping spots in the state. Plenty of access, no range anxiety, and the silence at night is... well, it’s something you notice. In a good way.
If you've been curious about overlanding in an electric truck — or just needed a reason to go explore this area — this might be a good starting point. Not everything went perfectly, but that’s part of it.
See you Out There.
