[see below to jump to different parts of this video] The coal town of Fayette, West Virginia was abandoned in the 1960's. It is located just upriver from the Fayette Station Bridge on the New River and within sight of the New River Gorge Bridge (Route 19). This is a 20-minute video, so I have provided links below to different sites at this old town. An excellent history of Fayette can be found at this link: https://coalcampusa.com/sowv/river/fayette/fayette.htm I mention the abandoned coal town of Stonecliff, and my previous video of it can be found at this link: https://youtu.be/FK9hLCn4N3M 0:39 old Coca Cola bottle found among the building foundations 1:37 water holding tank and first views of coaling building 3:01 best views of coaling building 4:55 coal chute and beginning of climb up to the mines 6:17 iron rails used to lower and raise coal cars to/from mines 9:10 abandoned coal cart near mine level 10:00 main coal mine opening 13:00 likely powder house where explosives were stored 13:15 old coal car driven by miners in/out of mines and to pull coal carts at mine level 13:40 second mine opening, last used as a ventilation shaft 15:38 looking in ventilation shaft/old mine opening 17:43 electrical remnants 18:50 view from Fayette Station Bridge 19:10 google earth view for location purposes
