Opening its doors in 1961, Ghost Town in the Sky was the creation of businessman R.B. Coburn. This Western-themed park quickly became a beloved destination, drawing visitors from far and wide with its unique attractions, including Wild West shows, a scenic chairlift ride, and thrilling roller coasters like the Red Devil. At its peak, the park thrived, offering a nostalgic slice of Americana where guests could step back in time to the days of cowboys and outlaws. However, the park's remote location, coupled with the high maintenance and operations costs, began to take their toll. Over the years, the park struggled with various ownership changes, financial difficulties, and natural disasters, including landslides and harsh weather conditions. By the early 2000s, these challenges led to a sharp decline in visitor numbers, and despite several attempts to revive it, Ghost Town in the Sky closed its gates for good in 2009. Today, the abandoned park stands as a haunting reminder of its former glory, slowly being reclaimed by nature. Ghost Town in the Sky closed its doors for good in 2002 after 41 years of operation. The park's owner closed the park a few days after a chairlift malfunction left passengers stranded for over two hours on July 16, 2002. He spent tens of thousands of dollars to maintain the park and keep it running, but with fewer visitors and poor condition, he decided to close and put the property up for sale. There have been a couple of other buyers since then, but something has yet to materialize, and as it stands today, in 2024, the park remains abandoned, rotting away from the extent of time.
