**About ABC Voice Model V2**
I created V1 of the ABC Voice Model in the summer of 2023. I used it with my Dutch students and it seemed to help them.
Three weeks ago I decided to publish a video about it on YouTube. The response was overwhelming. Both on YouTube and in my email. I was blown away by the number of applications for coaching sessions I received from all over the world.
The plethora of feedback I received made me revisit the ABC Voice Model and my beliefs about singing. Prompted by YouTube comments, emails, and coaching sessions, I had some new insights.
Once I did. I knew needed to update the ABC Voice Model ASAP. So I basically did not sleep for four days and now here it is :)
Changes:
- No prescribed vowels! Through coaching international clients with different languages, dialects, and speech habits, I realized it’s impossible to define all possible vowels, for every Mode, every language, dialect, and person. So V2 guides you to find the vowels that work for you and your language. This also removes perceived limits, avoids analysis paralysis, and helps you trust your intuition.
- No volume charts. It was too much information. Now there’s just an indication of the volume you can sing around your break pitch and in the highest regions of your voice.
- I thought singing with added air was only possible in Falsetto and Mode A. But through experimenting I found it’s not the Mode that’s the limiting factor, but the volume. So it’s possible to sing with added air in Mode B and C, as long as you do it quietly. The use cases for this are limited, but it’s an important change in the Model conceptually.
- Design update: V1 was a table with a lot of information. V2 is a minimalistic design with only essential info. Also: in this design, the connection between the Modes is clearer.
To avoid confusion, I took ABC V1 offline. I trust V2 will more than make up for it :)
This Model is the result of 21 years of singing, studying multiple vocal methods, watching tons of videos on YouTube, coaching by other vocal coaches, and coaching other singers. I hope it’s useful to you and will help you improve faster than I did :)
