Maryna Viazovska, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland, Fields medalist 2022
Sphere packings, cyclotomic fields and subconvexity bonds
Since 2019, Ukrainian-born Maryna Viazovska have lived and worked in Switzerland. Born in 1984, she attended schools for high-achieving students in science and technology. In 2022 she was awarded the Fields Medal.
Interesting for everyone following The Abel Prize, is the fact that she competed in the domestic mathematics Olympiads when she was at high school. She later on participated in a series of mathematical competitions as a young student. The Abel Prize is known for its engagement in education and competitions for young mathematicians.
Now, a renowned mathematician on her own, she has solved the sphere-packing problem in dimension 8 (2016) and this led to collaboration with others and a solution in dimension 24. In Bonn she held this fascinating talk. Enjoy.
