According to the narration of Jabir radiyallahu anhu in Sahih Muslim, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ''Vinegar is a good condiment.''
Jabir radiyallahu anhu says: Once the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asked his family if there was any condiment in the house and they said: ''There is only vinegar in the house.'' The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asked for it and said: ''Vinegar is a good condiment.'' He started eating.
Jabir radiyallahu anhu said: ''I have loved vinegar since I heard this from the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.'' Tuleyha bin Nafi said: ''I have loved vinegar since I heard this from Jabir.''
Hattabi says: The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, "Vinegar is a wonderful condiment," in order to praise the economy in eating and to prevent the soul from eating delicious foods. Yet, He is truly grateful for Allah's blessings and praises His sustenances.
If a person swears, "I will not eat condiments," and eats bread with vinegar, he will be a liar in his oath. (Shahru'l-Mashariq)
The condiments of the Messenger of Allah (saw) and his people were generally vinegar.
Vinegar is one of the most beneficial condiments. The Messenger of Allah (saw) said:
- Vinegar is a wonderful condiment. Again, he said: - Satan does not come near a house with vinegar in it.
Dates are condiments, grapes are condiments and fruits. It is a sunnah to continue with these. This is eating grapes with bread. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Eat grapes with bread, because the people of Paradise do this."
When sweets or scents were offered to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he would not refuse them, and he would not take even one of them without smelling the other one, even once.
It is also narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
"Whoever eats seven fresh dates every morning, no poison or magic will harm him that day." (fresh dates are the best dates of Medina-i Munawwarah) (Bukhari, Kitabul-et'ime and Kitabul-Tib)
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would eat dates one by one and would hold the pit with his thumb and middle finger and throw it away. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recommended starting the morning meal with dates without eating anything else by saying, "every morning."
It is possible that this type of date has a property that wards off poison and magic. And it is narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed for the blessing of this type of date. He prayed for the blessing of both fresh and dry dates, grapes, fresh and dry grapes, almonds and walnuts, both fresh and dry dates.
He also prayed for the cure of poison and magic. It is also sunnah to eat fresh dates with their dried forms.
A remedy is prepared with honey to cure all diseases. Because it is blessed because seventy prophets prayed for its blessing.
According to the narration from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), whoever eats honey for three days every month will stay away from paralysis.
Hz. Ali Karremellahu Vecheh said: If a person who is afflicted with a severe illness takes a dirham from his wife's Mahr and buys honey with it and mixes it with water sent down from the sky (rain water), he will be cured by Allah. Allah Almighty said about Mahr:
''Eat it with pleasure, as your wives please.'' (Quran/Nisa Surah: 4)
He said about honey:
''There is healing in it for people.'' (Quran/Nahl Surah: 69)
He also said about rain water:
''We have sent down blessed water from the sky.'' (Quran/Qaf Surah: 9)
As mentioned in Tibb al-Nabi: The Prophet's favorite fruits were fresh dates and watermelons. He loved the front part of the goat. Because the front part is the closest to the cure and the farthest from the pain. The favorite part of meat was the neck and arms, and the favorite of drinks was sweet and cold. A person who licks honey three mornings every month will not be afflicted with a serious illness, and a person who sends a lot of blessings to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while eating rice will not be afflicted with a serious illness. Because it is a jewel in which light is placed from the light of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). When the light separates from it, it splits and changes color, breaks into pieces and becomes grains.
According to another narration, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
