Freight trains tacking the world famous Tehachapi Loop, in Kern County, California. Opened in 1876, this 3,779-foot-long loop provides a more eased climb up the two-percent grade through the Tehachapi Mountain range. Located on the Union Pacific Mojave Subdivision, both BNSF and Union Pacific freight trains traverse the loop many times a day.
Viewing the loop from the surrounding hills is an experience on its own, but taking it to the skies is a whole different thing! Here you'll see a handful of BNSF and UP freight trains on the loop in early 2025.
