I'm going to show you my acrylic pouring canvas prep process. First, I always tape the back of my canvas. It provides a much cleaner look. Second, I use an awl to create pilot holes that I screw cup hooks into. My favorite cup hooks have a rubber coating on them. The cup hooks are great because you can easily adjust them to level your canvas.
