Active shooter scenario training exercise | August 3, 2023

On Thursday, August 4, 2023, more than 200 civilian and first responder personnel participated in a training exercise focused on an active shooter scenario. The focus of the exercise was to gauge preparedness and response, to assess operational coordination and incident mitigation, as well as casualty care and family reunification. While first responders in Beaufort County have been participating in combined active shooter training for 14 years, this year’s training included a parent/student reunification scenario a, as well as a patient surge scenario at the hospital. Participants included individuals from: • Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office • Beaufort Police Department • Port Royal Police Department • Bluffton Police Department • USCB Police Department • State and Federal public safety agencies • Local military installations • The City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department • Lady's Island - St. Helena Fire District • Bluffton Township Fire District • Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services • Town of Hilton Head Island • Beaufort County School District • Beaufort Memorial Hospital
