Let’s test drive and review the 2025 Acura TLX Type S! (And thanks @homefieldapparel for sponsoring this video!)
In America, the TLX is one of Acura’s last two sedans. The other is the Acura Integra, which has a manual transmission, front-wheel drive, and a huge legacy behind its name. The TLX is the more expensive of the two, but vs. the Integra’s popularity, it’s the more regular car.
In 2025 on the American market, the TLX lineup has three main models. The lineup begins with the Technology Package, which starts at $45,400. You get front-wheel-drive, a 2-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, and you get a 10-speed automatic transmission.
From there, I was prompted to choose from four appearance options: silver paint with a black interior, black paint with a black interior, gray paint with a black interior, or white paint with a tan interior. There’s not a lot of customization potential.
Then we move to the A-Spec appearance package, which starts at $50,400 and gets all-wheel-drive but the same 272-horsepower engine. In this guise in the configurator, I get two actual color options on the exterior — red and blue — but I can spec neither of those colors with a red interior. Only black, gray, and white come with that option. What happened, Acura?
The Acura TLX Type S has a 3.0-liter, twin-scroll turbo V6 engine that makes 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. That means it’s plus-83 horsepower and plus-74 pound-feet of torque over the other TLX models. That power goes through a 10-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels, because this car is all-wheel drive and automatic only — unlike the Integra, which has an optional 6-speed manual.
In this video, we’ll talk all about the TLX’s interior, exterior, driving dynamics, history, infotainment system, name, and more. We’ll talk about what “TLX” means, what “Type S” means, what Honda’s “Type R” (like on the Honda Civic Type R) means, and how to keep it all straight. Letters, explained!
We’ll also talk about how the TLX is a good car with a few flaws, and how they could be fixed.
Thanks for watching my YouTube channel. Enjoy the drive (and the video)!
