Video Not Working? Fix It Now

Learn how to turn any boring sweatshirt into a work of art by adding your own crochet sleeves! This project is a labour of love, but it is worth EVERY stitch. In this video, I show you step-by-step for how to prepare your sweatshirt for the best look, getting consistent and professional results every time.

Not only are they great to wear or gift, they are great for selling at markets! If you're like me, you like to stand out at craft fairs from other crochet vendors. What better way to do so than to offer unique and trendy products?!

Once you get the hang of this process down, you will be able to easily adjust it to make other looks by simply changing up the stitch pattern, or even adding crochet sleeves to other garments like a jean jacket.

In my blog post, I share other ideas for how you can spice this project up by adding iron on patches, funky eyelash yarns, crochet embellishments, or use a striping yarn with the granny stitch. The sky's literally the limit with how much you can do with this technique!

If you'd like more tips and and the free written pattern, you can check out my blog post here: https://daysck.com/crochet-for-days/crochet-sweatshirt-sleeves

To skip the ads and have a printable pdf of this pattern for your pattern collection, you can find it for relatively little cost in my pattern shops.

Supplies Needed (affiliate links included)
-Approx. 600-650 yds. of any size 4 worsted weight yarn (can also use sport weight)

-Cutting Mat (I used this one: https://amzn.to/4321dy0)
-Rotary cutting and rotary skip blades, size 45 mm tool (I prefer this one: https://amzn.to/41bp8s3 and this skip blade: https://amzn.to/41b8n09)
-Light to midweight fusible interfacing (I prefer Pellon Wonder Under, Style 805: https://amzn.to/4gTyejl)
-Iron & ironing board (I used a mini iron: https://amzn.to/433JYfB)
-Sweatshirt in size of choice
-Sewing machine with matching thread (can also hand sew)
-Small piece of cardboard approx. 6 inches wide
-Sewing clips or pins (I used these: https://amzn.to/3Qr0XBd)
-Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure

Gauge
With a 5.5 mm hook and regular ww yarn, 15 hdc and 9 rows = 4 inches. Gauge is not imperative for this pattern.

Steps 1-7 will be preparing the sweatshirt for the crochet portion. Once you have completed steps 1-7, you will begin crocheting rounds from the shoulder to the cuff, decreasing every 4 rounds. Your st counts do not need to match mine exactly, as it will vary depending on the size of the arm hole, etc. HOWEVER, it will matter that both of your foundation rounds have the same number of sts starting out or your entire project will be off. It might be prudent to go ahead and write the st counts after completing each round so you can compare your second sleeve for consistency.
