In this lesson we will see how to add mixed numbers and fractions. We will start with a brief review of the definition of a mixed number and the definition of a proper fraction.
In the first example, we will add a mixed number and a fraction. We will use the cross-multiplication method (butterfly method) and also, we will convert a mixed number to an improper fraction. If you don't like the butterfly method, you can use another.
In the second and last example, we will do the same, however, we will rewrite an improper fraction as a mixed number and viceversa. Lastly, we will express the final answer as a mixed number and as an improper fraction.
That all for today’s lesson, see you next time!
