I am a big fan of the tonalists and also the romantic painters of the Barbizon school. Most of these artists work in oil which is more conducive to working in a low key. For many Watercolorist’s working with darks is challenging, and so we will embrace the dark side this week. The colors I use for roadways painting are Quinacradone Gold(yellow), Burnt Sienna( red), and Ultramarine Blue, these colors represent the primaries and also sit on the dark side of the tonal scale. You can use other colors if you like but I would choose a limited palette.
