The final edit from my recent Scotland trip, another 7Stanes trail - The Ae Forest Red XC loop, the Ae Line... I rode Ae after Glentress and was admittedly spoilt by that experience. I'd not ridden at Ae for nearly two decades - to me, it's a DH venue, so went there expecting lots of looong downhills, obviously climbing too, but I respected long climbs and long descents and it didn't really deliver that.
The Ae Line Red is proper XC stuff, of the 21km it felt like I spent the vast majority climbing for the descents to be quite short, that said though, the DH sections of the route are really a lot of fun. The red route has a natural feel and is more like an adventure ride than a trail centre. That said, as you can see in the edit, some of the descents are actually pretty long, so maybe I was just being a bit unfair in my assessment on the ride.
When I rode it, there was still of a lot of storm damage and diversions, so I was on fire road for a fair chunk of time.
If you go and ride the Ae Line Red, go there expecting a lot of XC climbing and treating the DH segments as a bonus. If you are purely after the DH and freeride, then book yourself on the Ae uplift from the guys at @adrenalinuplift833
