The 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan met with fierce resistance from the general population. This film (posted in four parts) from 1986 looks at two aspects of the mujihadeen resistance fighters - the Pashto- speaking fighters from the Hesb-I-Islami mujihadeen, and the Farsi -speaking Northern alliance fighters, led by Ahmed Shah Massoud. Massoud was subsequently murdered by an Algerian news crew on a suicide bombing mission, on September Nine, 2001.
