Explore the origins and principles of Aikido, a martial art rooted in harmony and balance. This talk delves into its history, philosophy, and techniques, revealing how Aikido teaches conflict resolution, self-mastery, and the power of redirecting energy—both in combat and everyday life. Mustafa Aygün was born in Montenegro in 1963 and moved to Türkiye as a family in 1969. He completed his primary, secondary, high school and university education in Istanbul and graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Business Administration. In 1977, he started his Martial Arts training with Karate, and Judo training in 1979. He started learning Aikido in 1983 as one of the first students of Mr. Kumagai, a Japanese businessman working in Türkiye. After becoming a black belt in Aikido in 1989, he traveled to Japan where he received intensive Aikido training for several months. After returning from Japan, he started giving Aikido lessons regularly. He has introduced Aikido through numerous newspaper and television news stories. Mustafa Aygün is authorized by the headquarters of Aikido in Japan and approved by the International Aikido Federation and is currently at the Black Belt 7th Dan (level) in Aikido. He speaks Turkish, Serbian and intermediate English. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
