Aikido doesn't have knife disarms??
From outside of the system, knife disarms look super cool and new people always want to learn them. From inside of the system, a growing concern in the Aikido community is that Aikido doesn't actually have any viable knife disarms-- it's not true. Aikido doesn't have knife disarms- have you seen Aikido- it's full of them. However knife disarms are not easy or common place in a live situation- so the real question is how do you train those disarms so you can do them if the situation ever arises. Aikido techniques focus around clearing objects from the hand- that what all those wrist twisting techniques are, and why there are so many wrist grabs in Aikido- but you have to learn how to actually use them- and when they are a bad idea. How does Aikido v.s. the Knife play out? Well it's not as fancy as you think but Aikido knife disarming techniques are common in the system. You can look at this a wristlocks for the streets... that's dramatic!
