Honorary Lecture by 2018 Fields medallist Alessio Figalli:
On 22 October 2018, ETH Zurich held an honorary lecture in celebration of Alessio Figalli’s outstanding achievement in winning the 2018 Fields Medal. There were four Fields Medal winners in the Auditorium Maximum: Alessio Figalli, Artur Avila (University of Zurich), Cédric Villani (University Lyon 1) and Wendelin Werner (ETH Zurich) together with Luigi Ambrosio (SNS Pisa), winner of the Fermat Prize in 2003, and Mete Soner, Head of the ETH Mathematics Department. “Mathematics is a safe haven in this world full of perils and insecurities,” said ETH President Lino Guzzella on this occasion.
