Dr. Ethan Miller, a veterinarian, is brought aboard the Zevrix medical vessel to help with the aggressive and injured Rilgorr predator, using unconventional methods based on building trust and positive reinforcement instead of dominance. As Ethan successfully treats the Rilgorr and gains the respect of the alien crew, they begin to reconsider their approach to animal conservation and the potential for cooperation over control.
