For Steve Callahan, his sailing expedition would be one of the greatest survival stories in human history. Steve Callahan, then a 29-year-old from Boston, was in the midst of an extraordinary sailing journey. On the night of February 4th, 1981, suddenly, a tremendous impact struck the boat, and water flooded in rapidly. He had no idea what he had hit, but the hull of the boat had been torn apart. Steve scrambled to escape the sinking boat. In a desperate attempt to survive, Steve made his way to the life raft on deck. His boat, once a symbol of freedom and adventure, was now a watery grave at the bottom of the Atlantic. Steve could only watch as he drifted away from not just his vessel but also his dream. As Steve drifted further into the Atlantic Ocean, the reality of his situation began to sink in. He was alone, isolated, and adrift in a vast and unforgiving expanse of water.
