When made at home the calories in a paratha can be kept under 400 kcal (our recipe has 385 kcal) which is very reasonable for a full-sized lunch or dinner. Aloo paratha, or as a Bengali would call it, alu porota, is also an excellent recipe for tiffin or lunchbox for kids, or adults, or for carrying during travel. Aloo paratha, being very dry, keeps well for a long time, and for this reason it is an integral part of the menu during Indian train journeys, where a whole family can be seen devouring stacks of paratha with achar.
