Aman Kyoto is located in the Takamine district, north of Kyoto, where Kinkakuji Temple is located. The site area is approximately 24,000 square meters, and the site is a vast garden of approximately 320,000 square meters composed of natural forest.
・Previous owner
Before Aman Kyoto, the site was called "Kamiyagawa Garden", and the garden was owned by Nishijin textile company "Asano Orimono" for three generations. The owner of Asano Orimono planned to create a textile museum on this site, and collected stones from all over Japan and continued to build the garden over 40 years. The innovative design, which differs from traditional Japanese gardens, invites you into a world as if you have wandered into ancient ruins.

Kerry Hill (19 June 1943 - 26 August 2018) was a Singapore-based Australian architect who specialized in hotel design in tropical Asia.
Kerry Hill also designed Aman Tokyo, which opened in 2014, and Amanemu, which opened in 2016.
Aman Kyoto, which opened in November 2019, took 20 years to conceive and 10 years to build. Kelly Hill was enchanted by this area 20 years ago, and it took about 10 years to negotiate to acquire the land, and another 10 years to negotiate building permits and build the hotel.
However, Kerry Hill passed away one year before Aman Kyoto opened.
The beautiful moss garden in front of The Living Pavilion was named "Kerry Hill Garden" to pay tribute and gratitude to the late Kerry Hill.
