The AMG ONE is truly mindblowing! It's collection day of the brand new F1 engine hypercar, and not only is my friend taking delivery, but we are straight to the Mercedes test track to put this 1-of-275 spaceship through its paces. What an insane experience driving the ONE at 200mph flat out!
Mercedes-AMG presented the Project ONE back in 2017, with Lewis Hamilton driving onto the stage the car that features the same engine as the championship winning F1 cars both he and Nico Rosberg had been racing. Somehow, that 1.6l turbo V6 hybrid powertrain has now found itself in a car that despite all of the challenges has gone on to be a road legal mad machine.
My friend, ML @fastcarsandguns is one of the lucky 275 customers; and having previously checked out his Koenigsegg Agera RS ML and Apollo IE Golden Dragon at various events around the world, this time around we're at the home of AMG in Affalterbach, Germany. ML has not only kindly invited us to come along for this experience of the handover, but to allow me to join Sebastian Fäsch, Development Driver for Mercedes-AMG for some hot laps, and then taking the hot seat myself.
Having previously explored the car before, and had a first outing at the wheel about 2 years ago, today is all about the experience, and reliving the magic of a piece of engineering like this. The experience is unique; from the sounds, to the feeling with all the major components rigidly mounted together; and the performance is quite frankly otherworldly.
