Since 1971, the Auto Train has been shuttling people and their cars, SUVs, motorcycles, and even small boats between Virginia and Florida. Technically, you are not supposed to take the Auto Train without one person in your connected party paying to transport a vehicle. Although we cannot find that information on the official Auto Train website, apparently it's a thing that could lead to an invalidated ticket upon arrival. We did verify you cannot complete the booking online without paying for a vehicle. Not that we recommend this, but we have heard stories of people calling Amtrak and getting tickets without an accompanying vehicle, saying they're connected with another party who has a vehicle.
