Since 1971, the Auto Train has been shuttling people and their cars, SUVs, motorcycles, and even small boats between Virginia and Florida. Here's the full scoop on the history of the Auto Train including how it began, ended and was resurrected, what it costs today, and what you'll get when you travel on today's Amtrak Auto Train. Although we cannot find that information on the official Auto Train website, apparently it's a thing that could lead to an invalidated ticket upon arrival. We did verify you cannot complete the booking online without paying for a vehicle.
